A mechanical, double-acting, automatic tension slack adjuster regulates brake cylinder piston travel on rail freight cars. The AAR defines various groups of slack adjusters to differentiate functionality.

NYAB’s automatic, double-acting, AAR-approved slack adjusters for freight car applications require no servicing between overhauls.

Designed for body-mounted applications, the KRD-482-E slack adjuster is also available in the Water Resistant version, KRD-482-R. Both versions are AAR S-419 compliant.

Rugged, durable construction

Wear-resistant wipers between sliding elements that prevent dirt and moisture from entering the unit as well as corrosion protection on all parts help ensure reliable operation in service over the long haul.

Minimal maintenance

NYAB slack adjusters automatically adapt to brake shoe and wheel wear with each brake application, and need only two brake applications to conform to correct clearance after brake shoe replacement.

Control link and actuating lever hole clearance allows for 6° of axial alignment in all directions between the slack adjuster and the control rod / actuating link, minimizing the effort required for installation.

Installation options

KRD-482-E for body mounted brake applications features a take-up capacity of 19 inches (482 mm).

• KRD-133-L for truck mounted brake applications features a take-up capacity of 5-1/4 inches (133 mm).
